GDPS

GOCI data processing system, designed to allow analysis in various ways according to the research purpose

What is GDPS?

GOCI Data
Processing System

GDPS stands for GOCI Data Processing System, indicating a marine data processing system.

This system was developed to produce secondary results (Level 2) to analyze optical properties of sea water and marine environments by using GOCI (ocean payload of COMS) data and designed to allow analysis in various ways according to the research purpose.

Role of GDPS

  • Basic operating software to provide marine environment information in real time of the Korea Ocean Satellite Center
  • Standard processing software for domestic and overseas GOCI users
  • Create marine environment analysis data using an old/new algorithm (available to use both the algorithm applied to the existing ocean satellite and that of GOCI)
  • Extract pure marine signal through atmospheric correction
  • Correct ocean signal depending on the geometric position of the satellite
(As an ocean satellite is operated in the geostationary orbit for the first time in the world and the relative location between the Sun and the satellite is changed every time of image collection, marine signal distortion occurs. To resolve the problem, a research on signal distortion, caused by the relative location, is conducted and marine signals are corrected based on the research result.)

Features

GDPS is a marine environment analysis program with diverse and strong functions such as data processing, display, verification, and analysis. It was developed to process geostationary satellite data processing for the first time in the world. This marine data processing system has the following features:
  • Icon of Marine environment analysis program with diverse and strong functions
Marine environment analysis program with diverse and strong functions
Revolutionary marine environment analysis program with diverse and new functions
such as separation of the optical properties of sea water and the characteristics of marine environments
(chlorophyll, suspended solids, colored dissolved organic matter, etc.) and detection of red tide through the marine optical model.
  • Icon of The world's first geostationary satellite data processing system
The world's first geostationary satellite data processing system
The existing ocean satellite data processing systems are all for satellites in polar orbital.
However, GDPS is the world's first and only system for processing the data of GOCI built on the geostationary satellite.
It processes the data on the seas of the Korean Peninsula, taken eight times a day in real time.
Thus, it is expected that the system will make a significant contribution to analyzing the microscopic changes of the same area.
  • Icon of Improved reliability of data through new technologies and algorithms
Improved reliability of data through new technologies and algorithms
With the development of the marine data processing system,
it is expected to produce highly reliable data with the newly developed atmospheric
and marine optical model and analysis model based on the measured data around the Korean Peninsula.
  • Icon of Improved analysis precision using diverse ancillary data
Improved analysis precision using diverse ancillary data
This system improves the precision of products by developing and applying algorithms,
which are specialized for GOCI observation areas that actively using ancillary data including field observation data and experimental data
obtained from laboratories as well as the data provided from the satellite to find more precise marine environment analysis results.
  • Icon of Diverse selection functions meeting user needs
Diverse selection functions meeting user needs
GDPS has user-friendly screen configuration and selection functions.
In the future, most functions will be developed in the form of commands to allow users to selectively perform functions.
With these special functions, users will be able to use their own GDPS and their satisfaction will increase.
  • Icon of Diverse selection functions meeting user needs
Diverse selection functions meeting user needs
GDPS aims at processing the GOCI image observed every hour until the next image is completely received.
In addition, it allows users to check processed results and sample images through the website, and the GDPS data for users is provided on the website so that they can directly analyze it.
The system will be continuously improved for faster services so that users will be able to monitor marine environments in real time.
